Why the work after launch matters
Websites are not static. Software needs updating, security threats change, search engines shift and your own business moves on. A site that is left alone gradually becomes slower, less secure and less useful.
That is why it is worth asking, before you commission anything, what the company will actually be responsible for once the project ends.
Hosting and uptime
Someone should be responsible for the servers the site runs on, the SSL certificate and the domain setup, and for knowing quickly if the site goes down. Ask where it is hosted, what monitoring is in place and what the response is when something fails.
Security, updates and backups
Software updates, security patches and malware checks are routine work that is easy to neglect. Backups matter just as much: you want regular copies stored separately, and a tested way of restoring them.
If a site is built on WordPress, plugin and core updates are a continuing task. If it is custom built, dependencies still need maintenance. Ask which applies and who does it.
SEO upkeep and performance
Search visibility is not a one-off job. Page speed, broken links, redirects, structured data and content gaps all need attention over time, particularly after any change to the site.
A company that treats this as ongoing work will check it regularly and tell you what it finds. Our wider approach is described on the website management services page, and the full checklist is in our guide to what website management includes.
Support and everyday changes
You will want to change text, add pages, update prices or fix small issues without opening a new project each time. Ask how requests are made, how quickly you can expect a response and whether small changes are included.
Business hours and response times should be written down, not implied.
Continued development
The best websites keep evolving: new services, booking or payment features, better conversion paths and integrations. A provider that builds in-house can extend the site without starting again. That is part of what we mean by bespoke web development and ongoing improvement.
Get it in writing
Ask for a plain list of what is included, what is extra and what the response times are. Check who owns the site, the code and the content, and what happens if you leave.
If you are comparing suppliers in the West Midlands, a web design company in Wolverhampton like ours will be happy to answer these questions before you commit. If you are weighing a monthly plan against an upfront build, our pay monthly websites page explains how that model works.
FAQ
Is hosting included when a company builds my website?
Not always. Some companies include it, some charge separately and some leave it to you. Ask before you sign, and get the answer in writing.
Who is responsible if my website is hacked?
It depends on the agreement. A managed provider normally handles security, backups and recovery, while a one-off project may not include any of those.
Do I need ongoing SEO after launch?
Search visibility depends on speed, structure and content that need continued attention. Ongoing checks help keep the foundations sound, though rankings can never be guaranteed.
What happens if I want to leave my web design company?
Check the contract for notice terms and ownership of the design, code, content and domain before you sign, so you know what you can take with you.

Want to know what is covered on your site?
We can review your current setup and tell you plainly who is responsible for what, and what is missing.
